Writing readable SEO content

SEO writing is different from copywriting or technical writing, besides writing around a set of keywords. The keywords in the first paragraph have to match the meta description. The content has to have a minimum number of words. There are a number of other requirements that we have to follow. The main one is readability, as I have stated in the other section, the Fleisch readability score is a big deal. We have to make sure that the content we write is easy to read and understand. Yoast SEO will score us from 1 to 100, with a 60 being a readable score, this gets you a green dot.

The content you write has to be unique and related to the content on the website. Your page content has to be targeted at your audience, not Google. Google’s search algorithm wants sentences that read naturally and sounds natural, not a bunch of SEO-optimized keyphrases.

Below is a list of points that are important in SEO Writing.

• Have an Introduction, each page has to have an introduction paragraph at the beginning. It has to include parts of the Meta Title, Description and all three have to match up.
• There is a minimum number of words per page, with content pages having a minimum of 500 words.
• Divide the content using H1, H2, and heading tags, all of the different topics on the page need to be in their own sections.
• We need to have internal links that go to the different parts of the website, i.e. internal linking, and we have to have external links like linking to Yelp and Facebook.
• The images used on the site should have keywords in the alt tag that are related to the content on the page. We can’t stuff the image with keywords, we will get penalized for this.
• The meta description for the page has to be related to the introduction of the page.
• All bullet or numbered lists on the page can’t be alphabetical, the reader needs to understand what the bullet item means.
• Yoast in particular does not want consecutive sentences to start with the same word.
